The Identification of Fixed Costs

چکیده

Some household expenditures, such as those for subsistence or basic needs, are fixed. Using the methodology of equivalence scales, we develop a model in which differences in fixed costs of characteristics across households can be identified from household behaviour. Equivalent expenditure for a household is the expenditure needed to bring a reference household, such as a single childless adult, to the level of well-being of household members. The equivalence scale for the household is the ratio of expenditure to equivalent expenditure. Only two types of equivalent-expenditure functions are used in practice: those in which the ratio of household expenditure and equivalent expenditure is independent of expenditure, and those in which their difference is independent of expenditure. We propose a class of equivalent-expenditure functions that allows for differences in fixed costs and generalizes both relationships. Using Canadian consumer-demand micro-data, we estimate equivalent-expenditure functions and equivalence scales. We find that, for large households, fixed costs of characteristics are large and positive, resulting in equivalence scales that decline with expenditure. Allocating Fixed Costs: A Goal Programming Model Based on Data Envelopment Analysis

Today the most organizations (e.g. banks and insurance institutes) consist of the various units which under the control of the main organization (unified management) act independently. Sometimes the manager presents some services which incur costs such as advertisement and introducing a new technology. Most organizations consist of several individual units. Resource allocation issue appe...

Designing an integrated production/distribution and inventory planning model of fixed-life perishable products

This paper aims to investigate the integrated production/distribution and inventory planning for perishable products with fixed life time in the constant condition of storage throughout a two-echelon supply chain by integrating producers and distributors. This problem arises from real environment in which multi-plant with multi-function lines produce multi-perishable products with fixed life ti...

Identification and Prioritization of Accident-Prone Segments using International Roughness Index

During last decades, owing to the increase in a number of vehicles, the rate of accident occurrence grows significantly. Efforts must be made to provide efficient tools to prioritize segments requiring safety improvement and identify influential factors on accidents. This objective of the research was to determine the safety oriented threshold of International Roughness Index (IRI) to recognize...

Modeling and Analyzing Incremental Quantity Discounts in Transportation Costs for a Joint Economic Lot Sizing Problem

Joint economic lot sizing (JELS) addresses integrated inventory models in a supply chain. Most of the studies in this field either do not consider the role of the transportation cost in their analysis or consider transportation cost as a fixed part of the ordering costs. In this article, a model is developed to analyze an incremental quantity discount in transportation cost. Appropriate equatio...

Modeling and solving a three-stage fixed charge transportation problem considering stochastic demand and price

This paper considers a three-stage fixed charge transportation problem regarding stochastic demand and price. The objective of the problem is to maximize the profit for supplying demands. Three kinds of costs are presented here: variable costs that are related to amount of transportation cost between a source and a destination. Fixed charge exists whenever there is a transfer from a source to a...
